A psychic who claims to have recorded Rachel Quinney's spirit speaking the first name of her alleged killer says news of an arrest has brought comfort to her family.
Alan Hatfield has twice visited the Strathcona County field where Quinney, 19, was found slain in June 2004.
Hatfield spoke to Quinney's mother Delia yesterday after police announced Thomas Svekla was charged with Quinney's slaying 2 1/2 years ago.
Equipped with audio recording devices, Hatfield and Quinney's family claim to have recorded the voices of the dead woman's ghost, her grandparents and an unidentified man.
The recordings, made in the spring of 2005 and 2006, were taken at the site of Quinney's slaying. One 2005 clip picks up a woman's voice clearly saying "Tom," and was compelling enough to be considered in the RCMP probe of Quinney's murder.
"At the time no one knew Svekla's name, but my reading described him accurately," Hatfield told Sun Media yesterday from Nova Scotia.
He declined to elaborate on the details shared by the spirit voice, which was recorded again in May.
"Project KARE is afraid it might prejudice a jury," he said. "Rachel's spirit did tell us something was going to happen soon.
"In June 2005, we recorded her saying one more person would be killed, but this time (the killer) would be caught."
