"Dream delivers us to dream, and there is no end to illusion. Life is a train of moods like a string of beads, and, as we pass through them, they prove to be many-colored lenses which paint the world their own hue, and each shows only what lies in its focus. From the mountain you see the mountain. We animate what we can, and we see only what we animate. Nature and books belong to the eyes that see them. It depends on the mood of the man, whether he shall see the sunset or the fine poem. There are always sunsets, and there is always genius; but only a few hours so serene that we can relish nature or criticism. "
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
"Every time we walk along a beach some ancient urge disturbs us so that we find ourselves shedding shoes and garments or scavenging among seaweed and whitened timbers like the homesick refugees of a long war."
-Loren Eisisley
It was a long since vanished summer afternoon, whilst riding my tricycle up and down the city sidewalk under my mothers watchful eyes as she sat on the stoop, when in a jarring bolt of recognition, I realized I had returned here. I made an oath to myself that I would never forget, and I will inscribe this memory of riding this tricycle as a way to remind a future me as to not forget this get this glimpse of reoccurance. That was fifty three years ago.
Physicists now strongly believe that sequential time does not exist. We are, at a fundamental level, time and space.
When you bring energy into this equation at the level of consciousness, in the act of observation, you create distinctions or separate objects that exist in space by means of a measured continuum.
Another discovery was the phenomenon of retrocausation, wherein you influence the past in the future which is from our point is the present. Some have studied this as a causation for presentiment or precognition. I often wonder if my adolescent oath is awaiting to greet me as a reminder that I have carried into the future and then thus return it to myself in a past whence it reappears. A place marker in time. The fact that Schopenhauer, Nietzshe and Ouspensky intuitively predicted the experimental verification of this principle is remarkable.

However, when technology or knowledge of certain principles reach their potential, there is a danger as related by Morris Berman;
"When systems, be they personal or societal, reach the point in their development where a catastrophic breakdown is possible, then tremendous archetypal energy and knowledge is released, believes Berman. (Think of the Berlin Wall.) It is a time, then, of enormous possibilities, but dangers, as well. He warns against this new, saving energy and knowledge being co-opted by a fanatical political movement, a la Hitler, or by scientism or the corporation. This is not woolly thinking. Think of Pacific Telesis's $30 million experiment to educate public employees with the esoteric teaching of Gurdjieff. Ponder Werner Erhard's est-based consulting business divorcing powerful Eastern spiritual techniques from their religious mooring and moving them wholesale into American boardrooms. Consider Digital Equipment Corporation spending $1,200 a day having its executives taught to visualize white light, then planning global product strategy. This is a bastardization, a mixing of the sacred and profane. Give ego the sacred and you don't get a sacred ego. You get black magic?the bending of energy by the priests of money for the sake of the business chakra, the numinous bottom line. Tomorrow's CEO may be keynoting a sales conference on the use of the visualization of St. Ignatius Loyola to increase market share. Don't laugh: Himmler had the S.S. doing just that."

I had arrived on a errand to find some long forgotten item on the shelves of a grocery store. What I found was seemingly endless variations of the same product. I had to examine each one in order to insure I didn't select one that would not work for my purposes as well as finding the one that would. A very elderly man shuffled up the aisle and positioned himself quietly beside me as if he was searching for some specific product as well. I commented that there were an overabundance of choices. With a broad smile he said, "Thats the whole point...isn't it?" He left without choosing any of them.
Afew moments later, I sat in my car in the parking lot and was about to put the key in the ignition and then paused as what this gentleman had said was digested. I was taken back to elementary school and reexamined my imaginary plan for a national holiday named Stop. The naive intent behind it was to have adults stop for a day and examine why they do what they have chosen to do. Presidents, bank clerks, the homeless, the soldiers, everyone...would stop. I wanted to rearrange my world, my context and this to a ten year old, seemed like it had potential as a winner. Give adults what they could not give themselves.I put the key in the ignition and headed home and as I drove I intently observed the faces in the cars as they passed me and I passed them. What script is this we are following? Did we write this or was it written without our consent?
"I wander all night in my vision,
Stepping with light feet, swiftly and noiselessly stepping and
stopping,
Bending with open eyes over the shut eyes of sleepers,
Wandering and confused, lost to myself, ill-assorted,
contradictory,
Pausing, gazing, bending, and stopping.
How solemn they look there, stretch'd and still,
How quiet they breathe, the little children in their cradles.
The wretched features of ennuy?s, the white features of
corpses, the livid faces of drunkards, the sick-gray faces
of onanists,
The gash'd bodies on battle-fields, the insane in their strong-door'd
rooms, the sacred idiots, the new-born emerging
from gates, and the dying emerging from gates,
The night pervades them and infolds them."
-Walt Whitman The Sleepers
The chalk squeaked on the board as he drew a horizontal line from one end to the other. The tapping of the chalk sounded as though he was sending a telegraph. On one end of the line he wrote "birth" and on the other side "death." and then he looked at each of us intently. Well?
I ventured that it was linear. He spun around and connected the two ends of this line into a circle and drew one vertical line at the top of this path, bisecting it..."Zero Point", he stated. The reformation of the past was the subject. Casting aside the subjectivity of time, it was always now. The intellect has a great deal of difficulty with non linear logic. As Max Black argued if A causes B, but occurs after B, B often precludes A, therefore A cannot cause B.
Some time ago, I posed a question of causation to myself. What Went Wrong? I needed the most extreme example, the best documented case. I spent a great deal of money and several months reading evry available book on Adolph Hitler...his abusive father..his unhappy mother..his mother attempting to blackmail his real biological father, the result of her having an affair with her Jewish employer.
Hitler made it illegal for German women to work in Jewish households, and after the "Anschluss" (annexation) of Austria, Hitler had his father's hometown destroyed by turning it into an artillery practice area which reduced it to little more than scattered rubble and dust. Despite this attempt to literally destroy his past, it seems that Hitler feared and more accurately loathed his origins.
In this cycle of tragedy from our perspective in the future, we walk the streets of Braunau, where we see a stone slab appearing at first as a tombstone which proclaims; "For Peace, Freedom and Democracy. Never Again Fascism. Millions of Dead Warn (us)". Who would have either the courage and faith to erect a similar stone, that reads instead, send your deepest and most concentrated intentions to alter young Adolph's childhood life of abuse and deceit?
The remarkable discoveries of William Braud and Vlatco Vedral by way of their quantum thought experiments in retrocausation led to a dramatic cover story in New Scientist "Quantum Entanglement: How The Future Can Influence The Past" which Lynne Mc Taggart, in 'The Intention Experiment' summarizes Braud's own views of it's implications,
"These moments were analogous to a sapling that could still be bent and trained before it's trunk was too stiff and it's branches too large, the brain of a child was far more open to influence and learning than an adults, or even a virus, which is far easier to overcome in it's infancy. Random events, decisions with equal likely choices, or illness-all probabilistic moments disposed to early influence where human intervention could slightly shift the outcome in a certain direction...might be the events in our lives open to retroinfluence."
No one in the crowd that brushes past us nor in the sorrow of his millions of victims and survivors is likely to provide such a counter intuitive intention and so, we stand in irony before a marker that in one sense that we understand perhaps is a testimony to a hope against hope in a living now existing in our past, as the circle wheels around as a whirlpool of causation in eternity.
I traveled further back in time, in this Gordian Knot where the historical world met the individual world at the moment of birth. Mr Gurdjieff met me there. "The two will never meet" he said.
I knew what he meant. Whether we chose to paint the aggregate sum of the results of causation red, blue or yellow, we cannot alter the interior by the exterior, by politics, by religion or movements...it is still essentially the sum result because this changing of the sum in order to magically alter the multiplier is an exercise of wishful reversed reductionism..
All of the protests, all of the political movements, even religion is an exterior attempt change the exterior resulting manifestation rather than at the source of causation from within, we try to externalize an internal transformation.
I formally practice what is called The Remembrance of Death every day as well as it's twin, the remembrance of it's Source. The Zero Point, the smaller resurrection of the Dead. Here I am in a dreaming world, like Ivan Osokin, who was warned by the magician, prior to his return, that the wish for another opportunity would result in a illusionary pantomime of choice, a template of automatisms......a dream without awakening. Theoretically a closed timelike curve, in which the world line of an object returns to its origin, arise from some exact solutions to the Einstein field equation.
As in modern physics, Hindu cosmology envisaged the universe as having a cyclical nature. The end of each kalpa brought about by Shiva's dance is also the beginning of the next. Rebirth follows destruction. Science uses a heuristic method that requires objective proof of mathematical theories. Yet both have proposed similar scenarios for the creation of the universe.
In Tibetan cosmology, such concepts of ?eternal recurrence? repeatedly display the same apocalyptic schema on a macrocosmic scale as it intertwines the human condition in quantum terms with the the physics of materiality : a state of paradise at the start, then accelerating decline of morals and the conditions of life, a destructive global catastrophe at the end and a glorious new beginning which recreates the original paradise.
Then there is the mystery of such objects as the Coso Artifact which appears to be in essence, the cross section of an electrical device, perhaps a spark plug embedded in rock. Is this a 500,000 year old artifact of a future past?
I stood at the station platform as my train arrived, the bustle of passengers, the discordant snippets of conversation overheard, the expectant arrivals, the words of departure. Where was I? The train pulled in, and not having any obvious alternative, my curiosity prompted me to board it along with the others as I took my seat.I was nervous, where is this thing going to, what is this destination, why am I here, will I be found to be, what I am, a ridiculous interloper in my own extradimnesional's dream environment?
The train was pulling out as I stared out as the scene at the station glided past my window. I felt someone sit beside me. It was Mr Gurdjieff.."Everyone has iconic symbols...this one belongs to you...as an expression of reality...of making sense from nonsense...this is nonsensical...there is hope for you...not for this...this will pass away along with you"
We sat in silence. The passengers conversations, the woman walking down the aisle, the crying child became muted. He tapped my shoulder forcefully and intently underscored his words with a fierce and penetrating gaze..."...only super efforts count...when time itself is counted"
I had nor seen Ed for nearly four decades and we sat at peace on a bench in silence. He was the artist of dreams, I was the writer of chronicles. We both knew time was counted in this brief reunion as we compared notes on board this moving vehicle beneath our feet which is now a dialog of dreams. Our quest for truth as we aged, an unfinished dialog as we parted.
?Many of us who walk to and fro upon our usual tasks are prisoners drawing mental maps of escape?
-Loren Eiseley
Beneath the oceanic surface of a dream, the water clock circumambulates in the pulses of lightning in a dark cloud of neurons,as if we stand stranded on some nameless field out on the Kansas plains watching the passage of a summer rain, that as Eisely observed, produce the haunted ghosts that cry out in a vivid and plaintive memory as they were once you....a discarded mirror...children's toys rusting in a field...It was David P Morgan who said upon revisiting a cherished memory in the context of the present, where it had become an overgrown and indecipherable ruin, "Look away...."
Perhaps we do so at our own peril.
