SINGAPORE: A Malaysian woman named Wang says she has been seeing ghosts for 24 years, and believes that ghosts had helped her four times in the past when her life was in danger.
Wang, 37, is from Ampang. She frequently travels overseas with her family. During a visit to Singapore a few days ago, she saw an article in a Singaporean newspaper about a haunted building there. She called the newspaper office to tell them about her ghostly experiences.
Wang said that she started seeing ghosts ever since she was 8 years old, especially during the third and seventh lunar month. "But when I was 32 years old I bought a new house in Ampang and set up altars to my ancestors and to Guanyin. Since then, I haven't been able to see any ghosts."
She said that during the 24 years that she has seen ghosts, they were mostly female ghosts dressed in white and with inky black faces of which only the eyes could be seen.
She believes most ghosts aren't terrifying at all, and that they have saved her life four times in the past.
When she was 14, she had to undergo an operation in Thailand. The day before the operation, the hospital suffered a power failure. Fortunately, her operation was a success.
When she was 16, she was learning to ride a motorcycle with a friend when they crashed into a ditch. Her foot was pierced by a nail and swelled up like a football. She was hospitalized for 3 days but was lucky enough to come out of the accident alive.
When she was about 20 years old, she worked as a waitress on a cruise ship which encountered a typhoon. A 9-storey tall wave shattered the porthole in the ship's restaurant, while 2 of the ships 4 engines went dead. "The captain said we were lucky to be alive."
Aside from these 3 incidents where she believed spirits had protected her, she also said that ghosts had helped her escape safely from the fighting in Lebanon.
"5 years ago my husband went to Lebanon to work. I lived with him and my two sons in a Christian district in Beirut. When the war started Israeli fighter planes flew over my house several times, and bombs were dropping every minute."
She said that fortunately their house was in the Christian district and so it wasn't bombed. Their family of four remained in their house for 6 days, and then went to Syria with the help of the Malaysian embassy. From there, they returned to Malaysia. "I believe that even though I can no longer see ghosts, they are still willing to help me, and that is why I was able to safely leave Lebanon." (Guang Ming Daily)
