NEW DELHI, Aug. 20: E may be equal to mc2, but this famous equation now faces a challenge from an Indian scientist. Ajay Sharma, a lecturer in physics at Himachal Pradesh, says he has found a ?conceptual loophole? in Einstein?s equation.
?I have seriously analysed Einstein?s 1905 research paper and have found a conceptual mistake while deriving E=mc2. Einstein?s theory is valid for nuclear reactions only, but hasn?t been confirmed in the burning of fuels. I have suggested a new equation,? Mr Sharma said.
Though Einstein?s theory of relativity has already been questioned several times, this is the first time an Indian scientist has questioned E=mc2 and got international recognition for his work.
Mr Sharma has already published papers in many international science journals including Physics Essays, a journal dedicated to fundamental questions in physics. He has also presented his papers and delivered lectures at several science conferences on Einstein?s Theory of Relativity explaining what the ?father of modern science? had ?missed? to explain in his famous theory published in 1905.
The theory of relativity was a remarkable breakthrough that laid the foundation for modern science and considerably changed Newtonian physics, helping scientists understand unexplained aspects of space and nuclear science.
?In my 40-page paper, I have tried to do a critical analysis of Einstein?s September and June 1905 papers and pointed out some hidden aspects of Einstein?s derivation which leads to interesting results. I have given an alternative for changes in Einstein?s theory,? said Mr Sharma, who is going to deliver a lecture in Texas on ?Einstein Extension: AJAY? on 22 August at the 19th international conference on the Application of Accelerators in Research and Industry.
Mr Sharma?s book E=mc2, after 100 years of the epochal equation?s formulation, will be in the market soon. It is being published by Nova Science Publishers, New York.
Mr Sharma has been invited to several international conferences but has often been unable to go because of lack of funding. However, this time he has been lucky with the Himachal government sponsoring his trip.
