Editor's Note: The following contains an accounting of Shanessa's in-person experiences with different psychics in the area. All such experiences are subjective, and are best left to the individual to judge results and decide whether or not to utilize psychic services.
A psychic is a person who is believed to possess extrasensory abilities such as precognition, clairvoyance and psychometry. The psychic contact with familiar spirits practiced by New Age proponents has been going on for a long time. A psychic hopes to help people have better clarity about visions and hopes, as long as you believe that your future is in your own hands. Throughout history psychics have been noted to possess the power of ESP which is extra sensory perception. This brings personal information regarding the present, past and future.
I have always wanted to visit a fortune teller to learn more about my future so I got excited as I prepared to visit a few psychics in the area.
Would I be told that I would live a long and healthy life, have happiness and much success, marry the man of my dreams, have 2.5 children and live in a house with a white picket fence?
I visited several fortune tellers and learned a lot about their spiritual gifts as well as my future. There were several similarities from place to place, including the atmosphere where the readings took place. The settings were very tranquil and quiet, and there was a statue of a Buddha (which represents happiness) in all three places. There was also the ubiquitous practice of burning white candles that serve as protection. Each psychic visited presented me with choices: you have Tarot cards, palm reading, aura reading, crystal ball reading or a combination of them all. I did not realize that there were so many different "readings" you can get besides psychic readings.
Make A Wish
The first psychic I went to was Sister Ann, who operates Sister Ann Psychic Readings (5413 Raeford Rd.) Her readings are $35.
My first experience entailed me making two wishes. I had to share one wish with the psychic and keep the other wish to myself. After disclosing my wish, the psychic performed an aura reading. The reading consisted of specific information regarding love relationships and my future. I was told that I would meet the man of my dreams in one year and my future would be successful. She warned me of the negative energy surrounding me and told me that there were people in my life who did not wish the best for me.
Nonpsychic Impressions: Sister Ann Reader is not a common reader. She has the gift of telling you about your problems and providing suggestions on how to solve them. I would definitely go back to her because when she spoke about my reading it was straightforward and honest. She made me think twice about the people in my life when she informed me that someone close to me is smiling in my face but behind my back they do not wish the best for me. When she spoke to me I felt a genuine concern and interest from her. I felt that many of the things she said to me were true.
My Higher Self
The second psychic I visited was Sister Sammye (230 Haverhill Drive).
My second experience was very informative. I learned that everyone has been blessed with some form of a spiritual gift that can be developed. Psychics generally believe that the information is coming from a spirit guide or God, or that they are receiving information from the client's higher self. There are Parapsychology and Biofeedback classes that can be taken in order to learn and understand the mind's capabilities.
Psychics have been taught how to get into an altered state of consciousness and open one's mind and self to supernatural forces. The most common way to learn how to do this is to use a crystal ball or numerology chart that will trigger such altered mind states.
Nonpsychic Impressions: Lady Sammye has been a psychic since 1975. She gave me insight such as what classes she studied, how it has taken many years to master her gift which has a 95% accuracy rate and how we can all tap into our spiritual gifts because we have them too. She told me that her children have the gift as well. She has an affirmation statement that she states before she gets a reading from her clients. I would visit Lady Sammye again just to listen to her experiences as a psychic.
Psychic Channeling
The third and final psychic I visited didn't want any information reported about her, but her readings are $30.
My third experience entailed having to focus on one specific thing that I wanted to happen in my life. I had to focus on it and the psychic channeled what I was thinking. She gave her reading and asked me questions to obtain a better understanding of the reading.
I was told to keep all of my dreams for the future to myself so that it would not be sabotaged. There were a few things that I felt that they were right about regarding my aura. The psychic stated that I was a caring and warm individual who likes to help others and I have a genuine concern about people.
Nonpsychic impressions: The third psychic was very straightforward and direct too. Her major concern was for me to keep all of my dreams and goals to myself because someone may try to sabotage them. Once again it made me think twice because the first psychic told me the same thing and this is a statement that I have heard too many times in my life the last five years or so. I would visit her again too.
Scam Artists
I was, however, told about psychics who work as scam artists that only want your money. Some things to watch for include being told if you pay $500 a month your life will be free from evil and bad misfortune. There are con artists who pretend to be psychics and they are not. They know that people are desperate for happiness and prosperity and can get caught in traps that will drain them financially. Be wary of replying to mail that promises you riches if you send funds for fortune telling guides to personal wealth. Scam artists can be very persuasive so beware.
Overall, one of the most interesting things I learned was that psychics have clients that have been coming to them for as long as 10-15 years. I enjoyed my experience and learned information from all three psychics and felt they were genuine people.
