NEW YORK, NEW YORK, Jun. 1 -/E-Wire/-- Attempting to predict earthquakes is as likely as predicting when and where lightening will strike next. It is said that lightning never strikes twice in the same place. Earthquakes do. By this I mean that earthquakes may occur time and again along a known fault line. It may not occur , however, in the same location along the fault line. It will occur with relative frequency somewhere along that fault line e.g. the San Andreas in California. The San Andreas fault is monitored like no other fault. yet all that scrutiny cannot tell conclusively when an earthquake will occur.
The earths surface is constantly in tension. When this tension is released we experience an earthquake. Why is the earths surface in tension? The earths surface is in tension because our earth is expanding. The earth on which we live has been expanding for a very long time. How long has it been expanding? Your guess is as good as mine but the expansion process has been going on for millions of years. The process has been constant and will continue into the future as the earth gets hotter and hotter.
Earthquakes are ,by their very nature, ubiquitous, they occur everywhere on the surface of the earth. Every river valley, every valley, every gully, fissure, fault, rift, ravine, canyon, arroyos, draw, gulch, wadi, call it what you may, is a potential point of earthquake occurrence. These physical features that striate and lacerate the face of our earth are products of past earthquakes. They are the telltale wrinkles of an ageing earth.
They are the expansion points: created by earthquakes way back in the history of the earth. Each of these physical features are telling us that they were formed by earthquakes at sometime in the past and there is a likelihood that they might just act up again sometime. But don't be fooled. These marks show us that an earthquake can occur anywhere because they do occur everywhere.
At this very moment in time, somewhere on earth, surface tension is building up in the earths crust. That tension when released will cause an earthquake. That earthquake will produce a rift or fissure where none has been before. The question is when will this happen and where? The answer will come when the tension is released and the earthquake occurs. There is no way of knowing beforehand. That is what makes earthquakes unpredictable.
We can continue to flounder in the dark or we can recognize these physical features for what they are. All these striations and lacerations that crisscross the surface of the our planet are telltale scars just waiting to be recognized. They are telling us that our earth is expanding and has been doing so for a very long time. They bear silent testimony to what has taken place before we came along. They are there to be recognized for what they are and to help us understand. But are we listening to what they are telling us.? Are we learning anything from what they are showing us.?
Into this equation of unpredictability comes another factor. We are only able to see one quarter of the physical features caused by earthquakes. This is because the other seventy five percent are hidden under the oceans. The Oceans cover seventy five percent of the earths surface. Earthquake activity and volcanism are constantly at work under the oceans just like on land. The only difference being that there is seventy five percent more activity under the ocean than on land. In other words the action under the ocean is just as prolific as that on land. But it is in direct proportion to the land surface covered. The same physical earthquake features we see on land are also under the oceans. Here, I think, is another reason why we fail to understand the earth expansion process and find is so mind boggling. We literally forget that, territorially speaking, we only occupy a quarter of the earths surface. The other seventy five percent is covered by ocean. So when we speak of earthquake prediction perhaps we have forgotten this hidden factor. We seem to forget that there is greater earthquake activity under the ocean than on land. How would we ever begin to predict such an unpredictable phenomenon.
As tension builds up in the earths crust and is released. The resultant shock creates fissures as the surface is torn. A void is created and a slump occurs. Tsunamis like the one that struck in southeast Asia in December 2004 was caused by a release of tension that caused the sea floor to slump. The Indonesian Archipelago is earthquake and volcano prone and it is only a matter of time before another major earthquake occurs along that expansion fault line. The Aluetian Archipelago is another earthquake prone zone which is always experiencing shocks. The new Madrid Earthquake of 1811-1812 in Missouri caused the floor of the Mississippi to drop What really happened was that the Mississippi fault line acted up and the expansion process caused the bottom of the river to slump. Of course there was much loss of life as the town of New Madrid slid into the river and disappeared in the resulting slump.
Winston Churchill wrote in' The history of the English Speaking Peoples"
" In early days Britain was part of the Continent. A wide plain joined England and Holland, in which the Thames and Rhine met together and poured their waters northward. In some slight movement of the earths surface the plain sank a few hundred feet and admitted the ocean to the North sea and the Baltic. Another tremor sundered the cliffs of Dover from those of the Cap Gris Nez and the scour of the ocean and its tides made the straits of Dover and the English Channel." This all occurred about nine thousand years ago Churchill wrote. Today the English Channel is twenty one miles wide and still widening. The epicenters of most earthquakes felt in Britain occur in the middle of the Channel where the expansion process is taking place.
The Grand Canyon is the most active earthquake fault in the United States. Earthquake tremors are constantly widening the Canyon. The Colorado river is the fault line that runs through the grand Canyon. The Colorado River fault runs down the middle of the Bay of Cortez. As it runs under the Bay it is splitting the Baha peninsula away from the Mexican mainland. Another expansion point. After the Colorado Fault leaves the bay of Cortez at the southern end it runs under the Pacific along the coast of Mexico and central America. The last major earthquake to hit Mexico city had it epicenter along this fault line where it runs along the coastline of Mexico. Another expansion point. The same fault line continues and cuts through Nicaragua. Nicaragua is an active earthquake zone as the fault runs right through Managua the capital. Some years ago after a major earthquake in Managua the sea level dropped twenty feet on the coast. Nicaragua is another expandion point. The same fault line leaves Nicaragua and enters the Caribbean. It continues into the Caribbean where it splits and runs north and south of Jamaica as the Puerto Rican and the Cayman Faults. They are both expansion points. An earthquake can occur anywhere along the length of that fault line and they do. Most earthquakes felt in Jamaica have their epicenters on one or the other of these fault lines.
In 1969 The Mid Atlantic Fault line was discovered. It was found that lava was oozing out from the sea floor. This new sea floor was pushing Europe and Africa away from North and South America by about six feet in sixty years. It was further discovered that the fault ran right around the earth like the seam on a baseball. There is no way to estimate how much more dimension that fault line is adding to the surface of the earth.
When the earth quakes and fissures appear that is added dimension. When lava is pushed out of the earth, s interior like the mid Atlantic, that's added dimension. All this activity translates into expansion. The same expansion is going on on land as well as under the oceans. It is continuous it never stops and has been going on for a very long time.
In the South west United States there are numerous examples of new land being formed all across California, Nevada, Arizona and Texas. Some years ago in Texas there was a legal battle between two ranchers fighting over a mile of land that had grown over the last 100 years. The border lands between El Paso and Juarez is expanding. Mexico as well as the United States laid claim to the new formed land. Finally President Lynden Johnson signed the land over to Mexico as a good will gesture. The land is still expanding.
These are just a few examples of how earthquakes shape our earth.
These expansion points are all around our planet adding dimension to the earths surface by day and by night on land and under the sea . The process is relentless but generation after generation we pass blindly by. We fail to see the forest or the trees.
We stifle scientific progress if we do not accept that the earth is expanding. Would it not be better to ,at least, set about disproving it. As I have said on many occasions. "You cannot disprove that the earth is expanding. You can only prove that it is. The reason I say this is because for every step you take towards disproving it is just one more step closer to proving that it is".
