"I've found that the chief difficulty for most people was to realize that they had really heard new things: that is things that they had never heard before. They kept translating what they heard into their habitual language. They had ceased to hope and believe there might be anything new."
-PD Ouspensky
In many a past essay, utilizing cybernetic, biophysic, and metaphysic frames of organizational metalogic, analogy and metaphor, I have explored the nature of thought, consciousness and language in relation to the paranormal inasmuch as we are as much of the aggregate sum of a paranormal event as well as the event itself in that we are, oddly enough, not the adaptive constructions that we define ourselves as, and consequently as one half of the Janus face of the anomalous, we are as unknown as the answers to the questions we pose and so this paradox of logic failing to address reality is perhaps an inevitable consequence, an incoherence of relativity. One could state with impunity that we individually as biological membranes, or cells, if you will, of a larger corpus of organization within a living system have been more virally deconstructive than constructive toward our host organism. Another side of this story is that the illusions we carry with us in life may remain with us as we walk into our graves. The state of one world versus the next may be one wherein invariance, identification and certainty may entrap us into unwittingly creating an environment lodged in a entropic bubble between potential and actualization, as the ghosts of this world and that of the next may be enacting a pantomime of their own making. There is also another story, that all of reality is inexorably linked in a dance where error is as probable as perfection and that perfection in of itself is yet another illusion.
The same may apply to the nature of the dead as well as that of the living inasmuch as neither could vouchsafe with any certainty, until relatively recent times that the embedded database, or source code which unites both as a folded stream, has been, to put it bluntly, as they say, "hacked." One only has to track anomalous events and remove naive realism from our projected fantasy's to realize something much stranger than what our imaginations could create is perhaps happening.
Unlike classical mechanics, in quantum mechanics, there is no naive way of identifying the true state of the world, in particular, the state of observers is indefinite. The quantum mechanical wavefunction spreads out describing an ever larger superposition of different worlds. An observer observing a superposition can be described by a superposition of different observers seeing different things, but in actual experience, an observer never feels a superposition, but always feels that one of the outcomes has occurred with certainty, perhaps with the same shared experience between what we call the ghost's perspective and orientation and the material expression of information made by the other side of our demarcation of a system which we call the living. This apparent conflict between a wavefunction description and classical experience is called the problem of observation, and it was apparent to the early founders of quantum mechanics.
One could say that the awareness of the superimposition of states, is what we call para-"normal."
I have a propensity to pose simple questions that are seldom addressed in this field one of which is as follows: Is intelligence an equal property of sentience? I have often relied on the metaphor of mirrors to address the self reflective nature of consciousness as well as the that of our position with a universe that explores it's own nature as we explore the universe to explore ourselves, yet another mirror, both of which may share a state of superimposition.
As I have researched intelligence, particularly cellular intelligence,in relation to coherence as part of a living system, I was struck by how much can be accomplished without self organizing nature of sentience as a self reflective, co-creative and innovating manifestation of self organization, outside of mutational differentiation as a reorganization of state versus the creation of one, which can be a subtle and trying discernment to untangle but Arthur Koestler successfully resorted to coining a new term to create a new cartography of these interrelationships.
This is yet another variant of superimposition that also infers a certain theosophical term, an askaic record or database referring to a universal filing system which records every occurring thought, word, and action. The records are impressed on a subtle substance called akasha (or soniferous ether as a state and station of information that serves as a dynamic variable in the same sense of a genetic code, or language. In Hindu mysticism, this akasha is thought to be the primary principle of nature from which the other four natural principles, fire, air, earth, and water that, in turn, metaphorically represent the five senses of the human being which corresponds to all states of energy.... which can be both non linguistic and coherent in a waveform collapse, which is contingent upon the state and station of the loci of manifestation, whether it is a cell or a human being, all of which are the transpositions of a base language. In other words, perhaps there is a connection between non linguistic form and meaning as determined by local conditions when they are superimposed upon by distinction.
"A holon (Greek: holos, "whole") is something that is simultaneously a whole and a part. The word was coined by Arthur Koestler in his book The Ghost in the Machine (1967, p. 48). Koestler was compelled by two observations in proposing the notion of the holon. The first observation was influenced by Nobel Prize winner Herbert Simon's parable of the two watchmakers, wherein Simon concludes that complex systems will evolve from simple systems much more rapidly if there are stable intermediate forms present in that evolutionary process than if they are not present. The second observation was made by Koestler himself in his analysis of hierarchies and stable intermediate forms in both living organisms and social organizations. He concluded that, although it is easy to identify sub-wholes or parts, wholes and parts in an absolute sense do not exist anywhere. Koestler proposed the word holon to describe the hybrid nature of sub-wholes and parts within in vivo systems. From this perspective, holons exist simultaneously as self-contained wholes in relation to their sub-ordinate parts, and dependent parts when considered from the inverse direction. Koestler also points out that holons are autonomous, self-reliant units that possess a degree of independence and handle contingencies without asking higher authorities for instructions. These holons are also simultaneously subject to control from one or more of these higher authorities. The first property ensures that holons are stable forms that are able to withstand disturbances, while the latter property signifies that they are intermediate forms, providing a context for the proper functionality for the larger whole. Finally, Koestler defines a holarchy as a hierarchy of self-regulating holons that function first as autonomous wholes in supra-ordination to their parts, secondly as dependent parts in sub- ordination to controls on higher levels, and thirdly in coordination with their local environment."
However, whether we examine genetics, biophysics,the various somatic subsystems of the human example,or a crystal,or the money in your pocket,everything that exists and as well as that which we define as non existent has to be something to be nothing and that non sensate reality is called information and\or data,arranged in a non linguistic ( read non human) manner suggests very strongly a transposing hierarchy of organization that reformulates itself in a variety of contexts and yet remains coherent from a variety of points as though it were, in of itself, a chimeric and self regulating holographic principle. In reading the abstract of one paper, I was struck once again by this resonance;
"Living systems are distinguished in nature by their ability to maintain stable, ordered states far from equilibrium. This is despite constant buffeting by thermodynamic forces that, if unopposed, will inevitably increase disorder. Cells maintain a steep transmembrane entropy gradient by continuous application of information that permits cellular components to carry out highly specific tasks that import energy and export entropy. Thus, the study of information storage, flow and utilization is critical for understanding first principles that govern the dynamics of life. Initial biological applications of information theory (IT) used Shannon’s methods to measure the information content in strings of monomers such as genes, RNA, and proteins. Recent work has used bioinformatic and dynamical systems to provide remarkable insights into the topology and dynamics of intracellular information networks."

Of course then we have the matter of disease which can also perhaps used to describe the incoherency of our own state of affairs placed in the context of an applicable metaphor toward the individuated cellular intelligence of a species within the larger context of global events as "Many fascinating challenges remain, including defining the intercellular information dynamics of multicellular organisms and the role of disordered information storage and flow in disease."
In further research on what lies behind this scrim of an open, living system, that converts waves and packets of data into particles in which the two are in perpetual dialog, utilizing a common non linguistic "language", I began to ruminate on thermodynamics and particularly the conservation of energy, if the universe is an open as opposed to a closed system, which I suspect that it is, then I began to further go down a road into an evolutionary track and the self organization of complex systems and the concept of a non linguistic variant of which we are one.
I was reminded of Ibn Al Arabi's exposition of Jona who was a very short tempered and judgmental individual, so much so that he was unceremoniously thrown overboard during one of his hectoring expositions on his fellow seafarers short comings. In another irked moment of reflection he began to obsessively dwell on the ignorance of the public in general while holding a small pot in his hand, and in a self absorbed and indignant moment of contemplation he wished the destruction of his fellows and smashed the pot into tiny fragments. At this point he had a revelation carried by a voice within him that said why would I go to such lengths to create such a vessel only to throw it into a fire in order to destroy it? Again, metaphor being at play, I transposed this into data, I could envision a reality where data is never destroyed in a living system as we look into genetics, where we can trace back a developmental process of adaptation based upon if you will, the recycling of earlier formulations in relation to a foundation.
If thought is an adaptive utilization of linguistic information that is linked to a non liguistic reality, once an organism changes states, as Rodney Collin suggested (in the terms of his day) into an "electronic state", the self organizing locus of an individual is perhaps, while not sentient or self reflective is very similar to "cellular intelligence" as it may continue to organize itself by it's own cybernetic, self referential terms...in other words intelligence may be mistaken for sentience, if the data is transposed into a non linguistic field that becomes only apparently sentient when it interfaces with a coherent observer such as ourselves in a quantum decoding process. In this sense the roles of the living and the dead may be interchangeable in having a similar orientation, either reversed or inverted depending on one's orientation. Consequently it may be that a relative handful may be comparatively, perfectly aware that this is a matter of subjectivity poised as a self referential reality and thus abide by the axiom that silence is the better half of valor in a code of chivalry whose peculiar orientation we cannot fathom at present.
Why do I think this may be? In researching the phenomenon of electronic devices receiving messages, I found a very interesting aspect in the harmonic relationship of two receivers.. one being the human receiver and the other being the device... both of which appear to tune a certain coherency akin to a resonance phenomena wherein the "mechanical" device as a antennae for wave propagation transcribes the attenuated human receiver, or if you will "transceiver" into coherent chatter. There is one infamous incident where scientists investigating one particular claim, deconstructed both tuning devices in a radio that was purported to receive linguistics from the "dead." They found nothing out out place or extraordinary, however this was not the case when a certain individual was in very close proximity to the radio in question. There may be a ghost in the living and the living in the ghost in relation to sharing a similar conceptual orientation toward a divisor of selves shared by the nature of information in living systems, either those of non linguistic intelligence and\or that transcribed by our adaptive systems of cognition.
Those who have a propensity to "hunt" ghosts have a very pronounced anthropomorphic bias that they bring to the table as an organizing principle in orienting themselves to what appears to be sentience when it may be a case of intelligence, or if you will, a packet of self organizing information that has been accessed.

A short essay by Clifford Greenblatt is interesting , a small but relevant portion is cited below; http://journal.ilovephilosophy.com/Arti ... tience-/50 In this we have posed the principles of organizational invariance and coherence, which I think accurately reflects the psychology that underpins most paradigms regarding ghosts.
"Further into his paper, Dr. Chalmers discusses the possibility of an explanatory bridge to develop a naturalistic theory of conscious experience. He admits that no satisfactory naturalistic theory of conscious experience yet exists, but he proposes two key principles to guide efforts in developing such a theory. These two principles are the principle of structural coherence and the principle of organizational invariance...."
In other words, the concept that poses variance opposed to immutability, an open system versus a closed one...wherein, if we consider variance as the differentiation of a living system, it may be an immutable property of a intermediary organization principle of energy that as a portion of such a self organizing system, these individuated "keywords" may continue to computerate relationships as a self organized referent within a proverbial, "living" intelligence versus the invariable database of a closed system.
"The principle of organizational invariance may be a significant point of departure between supernatural dualism and natural dualism. Identical twins may develop structural and informational differences at very early stages of development, but they are much more similar to each other at their earliest sentience manifestation than they are to what either of them will be at the age of thirty years. By the principle of organizational invariance, the identical twins would have a closer sentient identity to each other at their earliest sentience manifestation than they would to either of their thirty years of age versions. In biblical supernatural dualism, each twin has a unique fixed sentient identity that is invariant with physical development. Otherwise, God could not have called Isaiah from his mother’s womb (Isaiah 49:1). Therefore, the biblical view does not permit personal identity to change with time. This is very much contrary to the principle of organizational invariance and is absolutely inexplicable in naturalistic terms. Two major problems in testing supernatural dualism are those of awareness and reportability. I could adamantly affirm that my sentient identity has remained unchanged for as far back as I can remember. However, a skeptic could counter this by saying that my sentient identity did change with time, but the change was so gradual that it gave me the illusion of being invariant."
A Postscript of Invariance and Coherence Between The Living and The Dead
Then this sense of invariance has another side which leads me back to the linkage formulated in my own background in Gurdjieff's teachings in esoteric Christianity, regarding the illusion determining that perfection is a autocratic monarchy that is free of error and the resulting variance in such a proposition, inferring that we are in stasis, when in effect, our normal psychology is actually the study of abnormal psychology, which then leads us into self referential, closed systems and a worldview that prefers the safety of consensus in a psychological game of critical assumptions that to another non human form of sentient life, we ourselves may not be considered sentient, while possessing a certain cellular intelligence.
If perfection and creation are not rigidly linked then we have another possibility, which was postulated formally in advance of the discovery of the uncertainty principle, that original sin is not a reality outside of a manipulative paradigm and that what we are, to some extent, is the result of an compounded error in formulation as evidenced by our behavioral instability, perhaps that stands in stark contrast to that of other non human species. We need only look at what we presume to be lower creatures on the rung of creation to self verify that an increase in intelligence does not equal sentience. They are not one and the same.
However, the recombinant nature of deconstruction, incoherence and identification is missing from ourselves as a context for what occurs to us as observers, that we identify with our responses to such a degree, that in effect, we are a non sentient intelligence with only an illusionary persona within a self ratifying and comforting fantasy that we are independently autonomous, which then leads into intelligence versus sentience, which leads into the nature of ghosts as well as a redefinition of death within an esoteric framework. In this, perhaps, a more apt phrase may be that of a an intermediary existence poised between life and death in more ways than one.

In all these processes, there is an uncertainty principle at play, yet, if we use our own psychology as a measuring device we can observe that there would be some portion of our self organization that remains inexorably embedded in a strange form of behavioral self hypnosis as a extension of an inability to overcome invariability, while making claims of sentience. This locking mechanism seeks coherence by a self organization based on external referents which connects the living with the dead by an inability to separate themselves from identification with an external stimulus,as a defining invariable whether it is an automobile, a home or, in general cultural terms, a way of life. Perhaps planetary evolution as well has been pulled into this error, while we make the critical assumption that by playing with technology we can forestall the weaknesses of our constitution. Anyone with a reasonable amount of maturity sees a recurring error toward the causation of this and other issues, being externalized by the technological manipulation of forces we scarcely understand in order to mistakenly bring nature into line with a incoherent set of behaviors towards it.
In the next post, I will share how I think this concept of non sentient intelligence may be operating as an interface with consciousness in more detail now that I have introduced this strange arrangement into your minds. Of course... if what we are is not the tools we use to till this ground ...as a matter of adaptive utility, what may we be as a collective of individuated facets of a more globally positioned sentience in relation to intelligence? Is Sasquatch and the UFO examples of non sentient intelligence at play or a conscious force that is attempting to bring Lazarus out from his toxic cave leased from Plato? Further, is this evidence of, what in simple and reductionist terms be called the revision of a source code?
