will unfold on iN DEMAND Pay-Per-View television as famed psychics around the
world conduct a seance to contact John Lennon.

John Lennon was one of the most important musical talents of our time, but
he was tragically taken from us much too soon. Now, an event will take place
that will perhaps allow the world to once again be touched by his genius.

Renowned psychics will travel to various sites significant to the former
Beatle. Outside the Dakota building in New York, in the shadow of the Capitol
Records Building in Los Angeles, and in the town in India where Lennon pursued
his spiritual retreat, psychics will use their exceptional talents to contact
him for the first time.

In India, a spirit reader at an ashram believes he will be able to contact
John Lennon to receive musical notes and lyrics from the other side. If
successful, these notations will be flown to Los Angeles, where a composer
will arrange the notes, add vocals and backgrounds to produce a new song.

Makers defend Lennon TV 'seance'

The 25th anniversary of Lennon's death was marked in December
A television "seance" to contact the spirit of late Beatle John Lennon has been defended by its producer.
The programme, which will air on a US pay-per-view digital channel, has been branded as "tasteless" by critics.

Its producer, who made a show in 2003 to forge contact with Diana, Princess of Wales, says The Spirit of John Lennon is a "serious" broadcast.

The musician's widow, Yoko Ono, has not given consent for the broadcast and was not available for comment.

Obvious choice

The programme, which will be shown on the In Demand channel on 24 April, will charge viewers $9.95 (?5.67) to see the show.

The Spirit of Diana cost viewers $14.95 (?8.52) to watch and drew an audience of 500,000 people in the US.

It was also seen on cable in the UK.

Paul Sharratt, who heads the production company behind the show, said: "People say this is disgusting and I accept that criticism, but we're making a serious attempt to do something that many, many millions of people around the world think is possible."


Mediums on The Spirit of Diana reported she was having fun

The programme-maker added that he was sceptical about paranormal phenomena even after psychics had attempted to make contact with Diana.

"I didn't come out a total believer, but it was good for a lot of people as a tribute to Diana," said Mr Sharratt.

He added that Lennon was the obvious choice for the next TV seance, and that Yoko Ono and other people associated with the singer have been invited to take part in the programme.

Paranormal activity

"Lennon was very interested in the spiritual world. It's a natural follow-up to the Diana seance," said Mr Sharratt.

The programme will include visits to places frequented by Lennon, such as Capitol Records in Los Angeles where he recorded, and a town in India where he attended a spiritual retreat.

A spirit reader who claims he can receive musical notes and lyrics from Lennon will also be featured.

The show will culminate with a 30-minute seance in a room filled with infrared cameras.

(Reuters) -- A controversial television seance airing on Monday will claim it has reached the spirit of John Lennon, but viewers will have to pay $9.95 (5.58 pounds) to find out what the peace-loving Beatle has to say.

The special, being carried on pay-TV service In Demand, was organised by the producers of a 2003 attempt to channel the late Princess Diana. That show failed to find Diana and received reviews that could have sunk the Titanic but it is estimated to have grossed close to $8 million.

Sight unseen, the Lennon effort has been attacked by the late Beatle's friends and fans as a tasteless effort to profit from his assassination 25 years ago. But producers say they are hoping to lure an audience that now loves such prime-time network TV shows as "Ghost Whisperer" and "Medium."

The program features what is described as an Electronic Voice Phenomenon, or EVP, that a psychic on the show claims is the disembodied voice of Lennon speaking at a seance in one of his favourite New York restaurants, La Fortuna.

EVP is based on a belief that spirit voices communicate through radio and TV broadcast signals.

On the television show, filming at La Fortuna suddenly stops and a narrator says something odd has happened. They then claim that a mysterious voice can be heard on the voice feed of one of the psychics.

The producers then call in "EVP specialist" Sandra Belanger to examine the voice and she proclaims it the real deal.

"That's very consistent with a Class A EVP," she said, regarding the level and clarity of the voice. She also says the voice sounds like how Lennon would have talked.

Reuters was given a preview of the program, "The Spirit of John Lennon," on condition that it not reveal what the "voice" said during the taped seance.

Producer Paul Sharratt, who heads Starcast Productions and who calls himself a sceptic, said hearing the voice has made him a believer.

"The Spirit of John Lennon" is being done without the knowledge or consent of Lennon's estate or his widow Yoko Ono, who declined comment. Her long-time friend and spokesman Elliot Mintz has called the entire exercise "tacky, exploitative and far removed" from the icon's way of life.

THE producers of a pay-per-view television seance that will be broadcast in America tonight claim to have contacted John Lennon from beyond the grave.
Viewers are being asked to fork out $9.95 (?5.60) to hear him deliver a message to the world.

?It?s definitely a voice. It?s a few words,? Paul Sharratt, the British producer of The Spirit of John Lennon, said.

The show comes after Sharratt?s unsuccessful pay-per-view effort to contact the late Diana, Princess of Wales, in 2003 and has provoked outrage among Beatles fans and ridicule from scientists.

Yoko Ono?s friend and long-established spokesman, Elliot Mintz, has called the enterprise ?tacky, exploitative and far removed? from Lennon?s way of life. ?A pay-per-view seance was never his style,? he said.

But Sharratt insists that Lennon and Ono delved into the spirit world with a seance in 1980 at their flat in the Dakota building in New York to try to contact its former residents.

The producers claim that Lennon, who was murdered outside the building later that year, was captured this month by a television crew?s sound equipment after a seance at his favourite New York restaurant, La Fortuna, by a British psychic, Joe Power.

?None of us heard him at all,? Power said. ?What happened is it was one of the cameramen who discovered the voice shortly afterwards when he was listening back. This is the most powerful message to the world, what is being said. You listen to one word and it gives you a shiver down the spine. It?s a sentence. It?s very, very clear. It?s one of the most clear messages you would have. It?s not like your normal ?light flashes on and off?.?

Sharratt says that the recording is an example of a paranormal ?Electronic Voice Phenomenon?, or EVP. ?It?s on one track of a stereo microphone. You have the psychic?s voice on one track ? on the other track, another voice. We have had experts down to listen to it. They say it?s a class A case of EVP.

?The only thing we are claiming is that an expert has listened to this voice.?

Kendrick Frazier, the editor of Skeptical Inquirer magazine, which specialises in debunking supposed paranormal phenomena, said that the term EVP dated back to the 1980s and had no scientific validity.

?It?s just another one of these alleged paranormal phenomena claims that come along. I have never heard any scientific evidence for it whatsoever,? he said. ?That said, it would be nice to hear John Lennon again.?

Tonight?s show is designed to appeal to an audience that watches a new wave of American shows about the paranormal, such as Ghost Whisperer, Medium and Ghost Hunters. The same trend is visible in Britain with the popularity of programmes such as Most Haunted.

Sharratt concedes that the documentary, which echoes the obsession of the American tabloids with the ?Elvis is alive? myth, could be called a ?mock-umentary?. But he says that he cannot second-guess the opinion of Joe Power.

?I cannot call him a liar because if I call him a liar and he?s right, at 73 I?ll be in big trouble in a few years when I hope to meet up with all the people I used to work with.?

That's what the producers of a pay-television seance to contact John Lennon claimed the former Beatle said when communicating with them from beyond the grave.

The show aired on Monday on pay-TV service In Demand and was organized by the producers of a failed 2003 attempt to channel the late Princess Diana's spirit, a show that earned scathing reviews but was estimated to have grossed close to $8 million.

People who paid $9.95 to watch the pay-per-view Lennon special from 9 p.m. (0100 GMT) to 10:30 p.m. (0230 GMT) saw audio crew members, a psychic and an expert in paranormal activity claim that the late Beatle's spirit made contact with them through what is described as an Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP).

The EVP was discovered during a taping of a seance at La Fortuna restaurant in New York, which Lennon frequented.

The show's organizers said psychic Joe Power's voice feed went dead for a few seconds and the message was found on it when the tape of the voice feed was played back.
