SPOOKY tales of mysterious goings-on have been passed on for generations at Preston Playhouse Theatre.
Now, Clitheroe Paranormal has discovered that a ghost called Albert is wandering the historic building in Market Street West looking for his two lost children.
Group member Alun Day said: "We were mesmerised by occurrences on stage and I really did not want to come away."
But it was a slow start on Easter Sunday night for the six investigators when they visited the theatre. As with these things, nothing seemed to happen for a few hours," said Mr Day.
"We then set up on stage with our glass divination. We got nothing for a while but we persevered and then things started happening. These included rapid movements of air around us, which were not natural in origin."
The temperature inside the theatre plummeted to an icy cold and some members could smell leather and a metallic odour on stage. Later they were hit by a foul stench.
"We seemed to have the presence of a man, named Albert," said Mr Day.
"He was apparently looking for his two children, Henry and Margaret, who had been buried in covered graves or, as we thought at the time, non-consecrated ground ? not connected to the theatre. A very strong rush of air came towards us which was amazing to say the least. It made me jump ? and that is something I don't normally do if a spirit is around."
Investigators also reported seeing flashing green lights.
They believe Albert was connected to the historic building in Market Street West before it became a theatre in 1949.
Playhouse Theatre bookings manager, Jane Tudor, said: "If we do have a ghost called Albert it's nice to give him a name and a reason for him being there. If anybody knows anything about an Albert here, we would love to know."
