The Hinsdale House as it looked in the early 1970s. Clara Miller photo.
Clara Miller survived the country house at Hinsdale that many locals now refer to as the "spook house."
The once freshly painted white house on a hillside in rural Hinsdale, New York, is now withered and falling apart, the current elderly owners unable to keep up with its repair.
If you're new to the story of the Haunted Hinsdale House, use the links on this page under Related Articles for a little background.
Tremont Avenue Productions (TAP), Chicago, will be shooting a series of short video pieces at the house on August 29 and 30 - including the re-creation of the exorcism performed there by Fr. Alphonsus Trabold from nearby St. Bonaventure University. As part of the exorcism scene series, TAP will be also re-creating the de-psyching of the house by noted psychic Alex Tanous. Both Fr. Trabold and Mr. Tanous are now deceased.
Additional interviews with witnesses from the early 1970s will also be shot. Read the story on the upcoming production by Tyler Briggs in the Olean Times Herald.

The Dandy family lived in the home at the time of the 1974 exorcism. Mrs. Clara Dandy later divorced Mr. Dandy (who is also deceased) and is Clara Miller, a writer living in Oregon. Clara's book - Echoes of a Haunting: A House in the Country, has just been updated and will be released at the end of this month. The new and revised book, Echoes of a Haunting Revisited, can soon be ordered at Virtual Book Worm, as well as major online book retailers like Amazon.com. Clara's other books can also be found here.
Clara said the reason she updated and republished the book was the fact that "so many people saying they couldn't get the book."
Reached at her Oregon home Thursday, Clara said there was also an underlying reason. "There were some things I didn't put in the first one, some incidents I had forgotten and some I was afraid people wouldn't believe, especially my mother's long conversation with a ghost. Remember, at the time there was no giant upswelling for ghost hunters etc. Believing that people might be more receptive now, and frankly, having reached the age where I no longer care what people think, I decided to let it all hang out. My mother is delighted. She always felt a bit slighted by my leaving the tale out since it's probably the most incredible of all incidents."
The TAP crew goes into motion next week. Look for updates here on our encounter at the present day home with paranormal investigator Michael Rambacher, myself as director, Shawn Galligan as production manager, Matthew Beucker as assistant director, Greg Garland as script supervisor, and Philip Haddad as set supervisor. We will meet the current homeowners. We will be joined by 10 regional actors for the re-creation scenes, as well as a few witnesses from the early 70s who will recount what happened. There will also be local volunteers filling roles in secuity and as production assistants.
And Clara Miller is standing by in Oregon if we need her.
